BABOSO NEGRO
This is one of the most renowned grape varieties of the Canary Islands, known for producing wines with deep colour intensity and aromatic richness, as well as a high alcohol content. It is a red variety that ages well without any issues.
BABOSO BLANCO
It concerns a varietal that is practically unknown in the Canary Islands. Owing to the characteristics it displays through potential enological study, the wine produced from it is of high quality.
BREMAJUELA
MARMAJUELO
In El Hierro, this variety is known as "Bremajuelo". It thrives at lower elevations (up to 300 metres above sea level). Its wines are intriguing due to the combination of high acidity and alcohol content.
BURRABLANCA
In the Canary Islands, monovarietal wines made from Burrablanca are not produced due to its limited cultivation. Its wines are neutral, with a mild aromatic intensity, low acidity, and a propensity for oxidation.
FORASTERA BLANCA
Known in El Hierro until recently as Pedro Ximénez (recent genetic studies place it as Forastera), it has interesting oenological qualities, producing interesting young wines, although, if well elaborated, it has a clear vocation for ageing.
GUAL
Known in El Hierro as "Uval", most of the cultivation of this variety in the Canary Islands is found here. It has a medium-high acidity, a high alcohol content and a quality aromatic profile.
LISTÁN BLANCO DE CANARIAS
This variety is cultivated practically all over the islands due to its easy adaptation. It produces clean, fresh, neutral wines, with little aromatic intensity. This variety is interesting mainly for its hardiness, for its ease of adaptation to any terrain, It can be grown in both low and high altitude areas, with the highest quality wines being produced in the high altitude areas.
LISTÁN NEGRO
This variety is found on all the islands, although the largest area of red varietals is found on El Hierro. are found on El Hierro. This results in wines with a very marked aromatic quality. Due to their low acidity, they are generally more suitable for young wines than for ageing. This variety is interesting from a production point of view, due to the hardiness of the bunches as well as their weight.
MALVASÍA
It is possibly the emblematic variety most commonly identified in the Canary Islands, although in El Hierro it is merely testimonial.
MOSCATEL DE ALEJANDRÍA
This grape variety is found on practically all the islands, but to a lesser extent. It is of optimum quality for the production of both young dry and sweet wines, with a high aromatic potential,
VERDELLO DEL HIERRO
This variety is practically not cultivated in the Canary Islands, except on the island of El Hierro. It is very interesting due to its high production, given its high acidity and the alcoholic content it can reach.
VIJARIEGO BLANCO
White variety emblematic of the island of El Hierro. It is known as "Verijadiego" but is not synonymous with white Vijariego, neither morphologically nor molecularly. It is a late-ripening variety, with a high yield, high alcohol content and acidity, ideal for young whites, for ageing and sweet wines.
VIJARIEGO NEGRO
This is a late-ripening red variety with an alcoholic vocation and high acidity. It is ideal for making red wines for ageing.
