Vendimias en El Hierro

La Frontera: located in the western part of the island of El Hierro, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, has three different wine-growing areas: Costa, Medianías and Monte. Coast: Vineyards a few metres above sea level and extend up to 300 metres. Medianías: The most heterogeneous area of the Denomination of Origin and the most extensive of the three wine-growing areas of the Valley. Monte: Vineyards above 600 metres above sea level and under the direct influence of the trade winds.

El Pinar de El Hierro: is located on the southern slopes of the island of El Hierro, in a largely protected area of great scenic, ethnographic and environmental value. El Pinar is the southernmost municipality in Spain and is home to vineyards at an altitude of between 600 and 1000 metres above sea level, the most representative varieties being Listán blanco, Listán negro, Vijariego negro (Verijadiego negro), Baboso negro and Baboso blanco.

Sabinosa: Its name comes from the abundance of juniper trees and it is one of the localities that make up the municipality of Frontera. Nowadays it has vineyards ranging from 40 metres above sea level to 350 metres above sea level, with the most common varieties being: Vijariego blanco (Verijadiego blanco), Listán blanco, Gual (Uval or Uvalillo) and Moscatel de Alejandría.

Echedo: This village is situated on a hillside overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, close to the town of El Mocanal, and is home to the oldest vineyards on the island. For many centuries, the main economic activity of the town was agriculture, mainly the cultivation of vines. Its most representative varieties are: Vijariego blanco (Verijadiego blanco), Listanes blancos and Listanes negros, Marmajuelo (Bremajuelo) and Forastera blanca.
